Johnnie’s Life: Childhood in the Nineteenth Century

Johnnie's  Life: Childhood in the Nineteenth Century takes elementary school students to the 1850s to visit Johnnie Hedrick, the young boy who lived at the Horace Williams House. Students will have a genuine nineteenth-century experience as they explore home

life, school life, games, and chores of the

1850s. This engaging hands-on program teaches students how the lives of children

have changed over time, and asks them to imagine themselves living in Antebellum

Chapel Hill – while having fun!

$30 per class

includes up to 30 students,

up to 5 parent chaperones,

American Heritage Badge Program for Boy Scouts

Explore the Chapel Hill National Historic

district, learn about what makes a building historic,and decide what jobs you might

like to have in American heritage!

Our education programming team teaches scouts about the historic places of Chapel

Hill, the National Register for Historic Places, and careers in the field of American heritage. Scouts will take a walking tour of Franklin Street, part of the Chapel Hill National

Historic District, learning about its historic landmarks, mapping historic buildings, and exploring the fact and folklore of this famous neighborhood. Participation in this program fulfills requirements 4 and 6 of the Boy Scout American Heritage Merit Badge.

Celebrating Community Badge Program for Brownie Scouts

Brownie Scouts will explore community symbols in Chapel Hill with a member of

our education programming team. Enjoy a

tour of the Horace Williams House, sing along with three songs that are symbols of the University of North Carolina, and explore the historic landmarks of Franklin Street, part of the Chapel Hill National Historic District.

Participation in this program fulfills all requirements for the Brownie Girl Scout Celebrating Community Badge.
