Robert L. Strowd House
52 Davie Circle

Situated on Davie Circle, this lovely house is slowly crumbling before our eyes. In her 2006 book. Ruth Little referred to this house a “well-preserved Italianate Revival-style two story house (p.243). This is an example of how fast an old house can succumb to water damage and neglect is a short period of less than twenty years!
Robert L. Strowd built this house in the Italianate-style circa 1896 after inheriting a 1,100 tract of land from his father, William. Robert operated a store on E. Franklin St. and farmed. In 1926 he sold the property to the Chapel Hill Insurance and Realty Company who platted Davie Woods and Davie Circle. Little construction occurred in the subdivision before the stock market crash of 1929 resulted in the bankruptcy of the realty company.
